Grand-scale, classy mature undulating, pine-lined course set new standards in the alagrve on opening. Generally wide fairways, Large sloping greens, attractive bunkering and some water.
Quinta da Lago brought Algarve golf design to a new level. It has quite a strong British feel to it, Mitchell brought American standards to the course's design and infrastucture.
This championship course, was opened in 1974. It has hosted the Portuguese Open eight times.
A truly wonderful course, ideally designed to test the scratch golfer but can also be enjoyed by a higher handicap golfer, the layout favours the long hitter but correct placement of shots is needed to score well.
The course encourged everbody else to raise their standards - so play Quinta da lago south, enjoy it, without it and its history, you wouldn't have such a wonderful choice of courses in Portugal.
Strategic bunkering, occasional water hazards and large, contoured greens are the main challenges. The signature hole is the beautiful par-3 15th with a long carry (190 metres) over a large lake to a well-guarded green set amongst pine trees.
Driving Instructions:
