Just two kilometres away from the Country Club is the Golf Club and it's 18 hole golf course which is near the Picturesque fishing village of Alvor - Opened in 1991, Alto the last to be designed by the late Sir Henry Cotton. It boasts all the fine features normally found on a course near the sea including gently rolling fairways, immaculate contoured greens and strategically placed bunkers and water hazards. The course starts with a straightforward par 3. The par 5 16th appropriatly named "The Giant" at 660 yards is the longest in Europe.

Unless your on top of your game you should consider irons off the tee at narrower (but not necessarily shorter) holes. Undulations add some charactor, especially on the back 9.

The Par 72 layout, measuring 5812 metres from the back tees, is spread over two undulating valleys and provides a natural habitat for a wide variety of flora and fauna. It's design keeps to Sir Henry Cotton's philosophy that a golf course should be testing for low handicap players but provide an enjoyable game for the average club player.

The opening nine holes are caressed by soft Atlantic breezes and offer fine views of the bay of Lagos while the back nine is set over rolling slopes, which lead inland.

A friendly clubhouse provides a spacious elegantly appointed bar and restaurant overlooking the 18th green, a well equipped pro shop, and changing rooms. At the driving range there is an excellent golf academy with extensive coaching and practice facilities. The course is an excellant test of golf and well worth a visit.

Driving Instructions:

Situated about midway between Alvor and Portimao. Keep an eye out for large Alto Golf display boards and directional signposts.
